Alice from Pandora Hearts…what the heck is she really? She says she’s a “chain” born in the Abyss. She spends part of her time as a giant black rabbit that kills with a big scythe. (Spoiler alert: Supposedly she was human “before she died,” (WTF?) and there was also a girl named Alice (the same girl?) who was trapped in a tower for all or most of her life. She supposedly has a twin…but is it really a twin or does she just have a split personality?)

There’s a lot we don’t understand about Alice at this point in the story, but here’s what we do know:

-she loves meat, meat and more meat; spends much of her time either eating or sleeping

-acts like a girl who has in fact lived her life in isolation; her favorite question is “Can I eat it?”

-her other form, “B-Rabbit,” is one of the most feared of all the chains because she is one of the few chains that can kill other chains

-wanted to escape from Abyss in order to find her lost memories (there always has to be at least one person with amnesia in these stories, doesn’t there?)

-expects Oz to be her manservant, and acts jealous of anyone else who gets his attention.

Alice is the key to something crucial in the story, but we don’t know what that is yet. Although in the first book she seemed like she was going to be a major character (and she is a major character) she hasn’t yet had a cover of her own in a series that has so far spanned 12 volumes. I suspect her most vital scenes in the story are yet to come, and I’ll be rooting for her all the way.
